BODY
Pete passed along another meme. I'm several days late, but I suppose it's better late than never. In the spirit of the activity, here are four lists of four things about me.

Four jobs I've had in my life:
  1. I've done plenty of yard work in my day -- good money for a young kid.
  2. Mervyn's -- my first 'company' job between high school and college stocking clothes on the floor of the kid's department at this West Coast regional department store.
  3. Campaign Manager -- I was the campaign manager for a city council candidate in Fresno right after I graduated undergrad. That was when I liked politics, these days it's the opposite.
  4. Ethnographer & Design Researcher -- I used to travel all over the country studying people in their homes and places of work to help companies develop better products and brand strategies. Ask me sometime about my most interesting moment...
Four TV shows I DVR:
  1. Good Eats -- Alton Brown rocks, I've even built his design for a ceramic smoker made from a flower pot.
  2. Mythbusters -- The explosive Good Eats, I suppose.
  3. Entourage
  4. Flight Of The Conchords
Four places I've been:
  1. Alaska (2001) -- Dotcom bust decompression time
  2. Brazil (2006) -- 12 day getaway with Kerry
  3. Finland (2008) -- Analyst briefing at Nokia
  4. Hawaii (2005) -- Birthday gift to mom
Music artists I'm listening to right now:
  1. Tool -- 10,000 Days is the latest and greatest in their collection
  2. Ken Andrews -- Frontman of Failure, On, and various other projects, I think he's definitely underrated.
  3. Electric Six -- The lead singer is a friend of mine.
  4. Placebo -- Just great music and a great sound.
I'll pass this along to David Armano, Dan Saffer, Kerry Bodine, and Richard Watson (someone I've never met, but he just published a cool book called Future Trends and has an awesome trends site and blog).

I'll return Pete's serve one more time here. Today he talks about the 3 P's of personal social publishing. He offer's the following:

1. Personal
2. Professional
3. Public

I'm going to take another stab at it. Here's what I suggest:

1. Personified -- To encompass what Pete included with both "Personal" and "Professional," I feel this is more inclusive and flexible. We present outward appearances to different people all the time (family, friends, close work colleagues, work acquaintances, fellow hobbyists, neighbors). These are our personas and we use them to present different appearances in social publishing.

2. Proximal -- Looking forward, as devices increasingly become portable and embedded in the world around us, technology's proximity to us will become more important. This leads to location-aware technology and spatially tagged information. That information can be both the inbound (that which we consume) and outbound (that which we create).

3. Pertinent--This requires a little intelligence on the part of information and technology. The information should be somewhat autonomous and contextually pertinent to our situation. That means that the appropriate media (or metadata) that we consume or create automatically situates itself within the right context.

(Yes, I acknowledge that sticking with P's makes some of these word choices a bit of a stretch, but just focus on the ideas.)

These suggestions add an additional level of complexity to identity management, and I'm not sure that Google, Yahoo!, or Microsoft can accomplish this alone. I think it will manifest itself in an ecosystem of services, device makers, and information brokers--in addition to all of us contributing and direction the information based on our needs.
